George Grayson Westerman, MD, CPE, FACPE

Education:

George Westerman is a Distinguished Military Graduate of the Culver Military Academy. His undergraduate education in Psychology was completed at Stanford University, and his medical education was received at Hahnemann Medical College.  He concluded an internship in Internal Medicine before receiving his Psychiatric residency training at the University Of California Medical Center in San Francisco, CA.

Professional Positions:

George’s early professional  career in Northern and Central California included positions as Medical Director at the Napa State Hospital, CA; Program Chief for public mental health and chemical dependency programs in Monterey, Madera & Mariposa counties, CA; Director of Forensic Psychiatry for Fresno County, CA; and Certified Medical Examiner for the Superior Courts of Tulare, Fresno, & Madera counties, CA.

Subsequently he was a partner in the Kaiser-Permanente Medical Care Program in Southern California where he served as Regional Chief of Psychiatry, Assistant Area Medical Director, Chairperson of the National Subcommittee on Mental Health Benefits and Services,  and Director of Behavioral Health Services in Orange County.

In 1997, moving to Montana, George accepted the positions as the Medical Director for the State’s Mental Health Medicaid Program (Montana Community Partners), Vice President and Medical Director for Vydas Resources, Inc. and Mental Health Medical Director for the Yellowstone Community Health Plan.  He also maintained a small private practice.

He was recruited to become the Medical Director for Behavioral Healthcare Options/Sierra Health in Las Vegas, NV in 2002.  He continued in his position supervising mental health and chemical dependency services for the State’s largest HMO until 2006 when he accepted the position of Medical Director for Mines and Associates in Las Vegas and he opened his private practice, “Westerman and Associates”.  Additionally, he continued his quality assurance activities as a physician review officer for three Independent Review Organizations.

Certification and Licensure:

Dr. Westerman is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with added qualifications in Addiction Psychiatry, the American Board of Quality Assurance & Utilization Review Physicians, and the American Board of Medical Management. He is a Certified Physician Executive and certified in Age Management Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatrists and is certified by SAMHSA to prescribe buprenorphine.  His credentials include: Fellow of the American College of Physician Executives, Fellow of the American Institute of Health Quality, & former Assistant Clinical Professor in Psychiatry at the University of California. He is licensed as a physician in the States of Nevada, California, Wyoming and Montana.

Focus on Individual Care:

George has a unique background in medical management, utilization management, behavioral healthcare systems, clinical psychiatry and chemical dependency treatment. His primary interest, however, has always been direct patient care.  In his private practice with his associates he will provide individualized adult psychiatry services and addiction services and including Suboxone administration.
